The major phase in conventional dental amalgam alloy DENTOFIL FINE GRAIN corresponds approximately to the intermetallic compound Ag3Sn gamma (g) phase of the binary Ag - Sn system (chemical composition, Ag [73.15 %] , Sn [ 28.65 %] ). The gamma phase reacts with mercury in the presence of controlled concentration of beta phase (Ag - Sn ) to achieve the desired properties of the resulting amalgam
