The manufacturer of Dentofil fine grain dental amalgam alloy with their continued efforts also introduced another quality high copper dental amalgam alloy. DENTOFIL - HC is a non gamma II lathe cut amalgam alloy and bears all the salient features of a standard filling material and is more economical. It is being successfully marketed for the last 10 years and enjoys a good reputation among the dental professionals.
Its uni-compositional particles give a homogeneous amalgam, as each grain of the alloy gets exactly the same amount of silver , copper and tin. In conventional dental amalgam alloy nearly 40 % silver reacts with mercury remaining un-reacted is present in the form of silver- tin gamma phase [ g ] ( Ag3Sn). This un-reacted silver is replaced by copper. The separate copper - tin phases (Cu3Sn [e] and Cu6Sn5 [m] ) are present in alloy. Ultimately Cu3Sn reacts with gamma II ( Sn8Hg ) ,which is generated by tin - mercury reaction. As it is known that at room temperature only silver - tin phase Ag3Sn g phase reacts with mercury while other phases like Cu3Sn , Cu6Sn5 , silver - tin eutectic phase do not react with mercury. Thus due to increased copper composition present in the form of Cu3Sn phase which reacts with Tin present in the form of gamma II phase, forming a high corrosion resistant, h phase Cu6Sn5 thus finishing the gamma II phase and making it a non - gamma II alloy.
